Ed MacDougall is a native Floridian, and he knows South Florida. From his youthful “Ridge Rat” days of the early 1960’s, to his time working as a Miami-Dade Law Enforcement Officer, Ed knows our Town. A graduate of the public school system, Ed also holds an undergraduate degree in management from Florida International University. Before attending FIU, Ed joined the U.S. Army in 1967 to help our troops in Vietnam.
After his time in service, Ed returned to South Florida as a Vietnam combat-veteran and a former member of the U.S. Army Special Forces (Airborne). He and his wife Barbara started a family here in Miami-Dade and raised their son and daughter Robert and Kristin. Today, he and Barbara have four grandchildren, all living in Cutler Bay, Florida. After serving in the Miami-Dade Police Department for many years and attainting the rank of Sergeant, Ed retired to enter private business.
Following his father’s footsteps, a successful Insurance Agent since 1946 “the Insurance Man”, Ed started ChoiceOne Companies a Real Estate, Insurance and Financial Company, and located the business in the town of Cutler Bay, Miami-Dade County. He liked the idea of employing local residents and anchoring his family in the community he so loves. Today, Ed’s company employs over 45 local residents and has a long history of community involvement and corporate sponsorship.

Since that time, Ed has been in involved passing important legislation concerning the law enforcement, budgets, and inter-local agreements with Miami-Dade County; he also assisted in the hiring Cutler Bay’s first manager, clerk and police chief.
Since Ed’s appointment to Vice-Mayor, Ed has been elected and successful completed a 2nd term as Vice-Mayor and most recently as of November 2nd was elected to Mayor of the Town of Cutler Bay to serve the community he has called home for over 43 years.
